Cebu will host Tourism Jobs Fair
Job opportunities arising from the continued tourism boom has encouraged the Department of Tourism (DOT) to embrace another Tourism Jobs Fair in Cebu City this year.
Department of Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano said the Tourism Jobs Fair in Cebu City should facilitate the industry meet its growing manpower needs, particularly in Central Visayas, which is now promising as the country’s tourism core.
“The development in the industry’s demand for skilled workers and professionals is somewhat enormous in the light of the country’s sustained increases in tourism degree, the DOT’s 2008 target of 3.5M foreign arrivals and the continued incursion of tourism investments, making the third Tourism Jobs Fair an absolute necessity,” Durano said.
The 3rd TOURISM JOBS FAIR , which will be at the SM City Cebu on Mar. 13 to 14, comes on the heels of the 3.09M foreign arrivals and $4.885 billion foreign exchange revenues that the DOT has posted for 2007.
The TOURISM JOBS FAIR has proven to be successful in generating employment for the industry since it is the country’s only job fair that focuses on tourism, enabling the DOT to produce a system for systematic matching between the applicants’ credentials and the industry’s skills requirements, the agency said in a press release.

The accredited employers for the TOURISM JOBS FAIR are airline companies, shipping companies, hotels, beach resorts, restaurants, travel agencies, tour operators, convention and exhibition centres, spa and wellness establishments, recruitment firms, golf clubs, malls and department stores, call center companies and business process outsourcing companies(BPO), banks, schools, government agencies, and entertainment outfits, amid others.
The various sectors in the tourism industry supplied drastically to the historic 7.3% growth in the gross domestic product in the year 2007.
The industry includes a broad range of economic sectors with an influence that goes as far as agriculture, manufacturing, finance, real estate, energy and transportation, along with many others, DOT’s statement said.
“Therefore, the TOURISM JOBS FAIR , as a key part of the Department of Tourism’s holistic expansion program, is also our method of physically and directly flowing the fruits of economic development to the grassroots,” Durano said.
